After extensive research into Peer to Peer lending (also known as Social Lending), we were struck on how many people actually lend money to, and borrow money from, their friend and family network. The reasons for borrowing vary, but whether it is to start a new business, put a down payment on a home or pay for education, these loans are made between families and friends every single day.
Last year in Canada approximately 21 million Canadians either lent of borrowed money from friends or family members, but only 17% actually put the loan in writing. Close to 54% of the undocumented loans were not paid back. It has been proven that if a loan is documented, the likelihood of repayment is significantly higher. We are encouraging and facilitating the lending process at Kasu by assisting you in setting up a payment schedule, providing email reminders of payments due and documenting the transaction. Through this process we aim to lessen the default rate to under 5%.
Borrowing and lending money between family and friends has been around for centuries. Kasu was formed to encourage this trend and ensure the success of these transactions.
